Menswear Style For The New Office Normal
If you are reading this in the UK the big push to get workers back into the office has been scrapped and it has just been announced no social gatherings of more than 6 people are allowed (11.09.20). Consequently, the nation’s work future is still looking - at least until spring 2021 - predominantly home based. With visits to the office few and far between.
So, if you are getting fed up of sweatpants and want to fine tune your Zoom wardrobe read on.
An important Zoom call
A video call with your your boss or a client means making just that little bit more of an effort. I am not suggesting you arrive at the kitchen table suited and booted, but instead look at recreating those elements in smart but crucially comfortable fabrics. A jersey blazer worn back smart flannel joggers should do the trick – really an upscaled tracksuit.
Video calling a work colleague
Zooming a work colleague means you can afford to dress in a more casual way than you would normally do in a corporate environment. Dodgy slogan tees, pyjamas or video calling from your bed however are a definite no no! Despite your environment you still need to present yourself in a professional manner.
A day back in the office
Months away from the office can give you that daunting back to school feeling. So, when you do return albeit mostly on a part time basis you want to look at the top of your game.
Lockdown may have made you (like most of the country) put on a few pounds and made previous office garb that tiny bit too tight and uncomfortable. My advice is to try on your office outfits in advance. Too tight clothing is never a good look and may require you to purchase a few new pieces to accommodate lockdown tummy until you get back into shape. Wear a knit under a suit if no formal meetings are planned.
Virtual Socials
You may not miss the office, but you miss your workmates and often the only option is a virtual meet up. Catching up with colleagues isn’t quite the same over zoom, but it still pays to make an effort. Add in some print or colour to make you stand out and impress everyone with your newly honed lockdown styling skills.
