Find Your New Shoe Style
How many of you have ever felt great in an outfit, only to then have no choice but to add a pair of shoes you knew didn’t work?
So instead of confidently marching out the house, it’s more of a shame shuffle to try and hide your shoes. It’s a scenario I often encounter when editing a clients’ wardrobes - I will ask what shoes do you wear with this outfit? To have them point to the same pair of shoes again and again.
In order to make a wardrobe work well, there needs to be a variety of seasonal footwear. Well-chosen footwear can totallychange the tone of your outfit. For example, a blazer and jeans can be made dressed up with heels, dresses scaled back with boots and miniskirts casualised with trainers. You don’t need a shoe closet of Carrie Bradshaw size proportions, but a concise curated collection of shoes is the quickest way to elevate a wardrobe.
Scroll on to see shoes trends for this year, you may even find you have a of sling backs or similar hiding at the back of your wardrobe.
Bumper Bikers
Big stompy boots are not going anywhere for the foreseeable. 2023’s styles are more cumbersome with higher flatform or track soles and more metal hardware is on display. Pair with leather leggings, tapered style jeans/trousers tucked into the boot or add to toughen up pretty dresses.
Loafing Around
Practical footwear that was once reserved mostly for workwear, is now a mainstay on the fashion circuit and suitable for all occasions - desk to date night. From chunky to sleek there is a pair out there that suits every style personality. Neutral colours such as ivory, beige, tan and brown are great neutral tones to take you into spring.
These will look great with straight leg or mom jeans and a blazer.
Balletcore
Heralded by Miu Miu, ballet flats have been one of the biggest shoe trends of the past year and are set to stay for 2023. A shoe style that is worth investing in, as it never really goes away and every 5 or so years rises in popularity.
The beauty of ballet flats is that you can wear them with a wide range of outfits. Add sparkle or colour to a jeans based look, or pair with shorts or a mini skirt for a Parisian vibe. But beware they can look extremely frumpy when worn with midi and maxi length dress/skirt styles.
Buckle Up
Mary Janes’ are the ‘it’ shoe of 2023. I’m very aware, particularly after doing a poll on Instagram, not for everyone. The quirky design is just too well quirky for many women.
If you do like them (as I do) they work with dresses, trousers and jeans, and will give even the simplest of outfits personality - even more so if worn with socks!
Get To the Point
Pointed styles are en pointe 😊 You can find sharp points on sling backs, kitten heels, flats and ankle boots. Their best feature by far is that they instantly - no matter the heel height - make the wearer appear taller. What’s not to like?
Wear with straight, slim or wide leg trousers and jeans and slingback look great with full skirts for a more vintage 1950’s vibe.
on the wedge
Wedge heels certainly come into their own for stability, height and depending on the width of the sole, comfort. Great for summery occasions such as grassy outdoor weddings or festivals. Contemporary perspex or sculpted heel styles give any outfit an air of avant garde sophistication.
