Tips On How To Maintain Your Wardrobe
Before You Shop: Edit, Organise, Refresh
If you’re kicking off the year with a wardrobe clear-out and declutter, pause before launching straight into a shopping spree. A thoughtful wardrobe edit could be the secret weapon you didn’t know you needed. By organising what you already own more efficiently, you can make your wardrobe work as hard as you do. Smart maintenance and clever storage are key - done well, they’ll extend the life of your clothes, keep them looking pristine, and save you both time and money in the long run.
Below are some tips to get you started:
Invest in Quality Hangers
Consider your specific clothing collection and storage needs when deciding which type of hangers to use. Velvet hangers have a soft surface that is gentle on delicate fabrics. They provide a non-slip surface, help prevent stretching, snags, or indentations that can occur with wire or plastic hangers and have a slim design allowing you to maximise space. If space allows it I would though use wooden hangers for coats and jackets to help them keep their shape.
Ideally knitwear should always be folded to help garments keep their shape, but if you are pushed for space knitwear hangers are a great alternative.

Rotate Seasonal Items
Organise your wardrobe by season and rotate your clothes accordingly, to keep your wardrobe manageable. This ensures that you are only accessing and handling the clothes you need for the current season, reducing wear on other items. Keep out of season items vacuum packed, in wardrobe or store in an air tight box.
Storage
Store clothes in a cool, dry place to prevent mould and mildew - use a dehumidifier after a clear out to ensure your wardrobe is moisture free. Garment bags are a good idea for special occasion, suits or delicate clothing to protect them from dust, moths, and other potential damage. Store shoes where you can see them and not in a pile at the bottom of the wardrobe/coat cupboard - shoe stackers are an ingenious solution.

Stains & Damages
Treat stains straight away. De-bobble knitwear with a lint remover/shaver and fix loose buttons, threads and small tears promptly to prevent further damage. That way you wardrobe will be full of constantly wearable clothes. Frantic 3 outfit changes mornings, or worse still starting the day in grubby clothes will be a thing of the past.

Drawer Dividers
Utilize drawer dividers or organizers to keep smaller items like socks, underwear, and accessories in order. Avoid overstuffing your drawers/ wardrobe as this can lead to wrinkles and damage. Leaving some space allows air to circulate, enables easy access to clothes and crucially makes it far easier to see what you have. No hidden forgotten items means you can wear everything.
